Mother Silouana
Small Schema nun at the Convent of the Mother of God, Seeker of the Lost
Mother Silouana is a Small Schema nun at the Convent of the Mother of God, Seeker of the Lost, in Kansas City, Missouri, whose Spiritual Father is fr. Turbo Qualls. Her spiritual journey began in 2017 with an AA 12-step group, following nearly ten years of struggling with addiction. After spending a few years in AA, she found that her search for truth was not fully satisfied by the 12 steps. The loss of a close friend to overdose inspired her to seek God more deeply, which eventually brought her to St. Mary of Egypt Serbian Orthodox Church. While she was a Catechumen, she completed her Bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling with the intention of eventually providing assistance to others who are trying to overcome addiction within the Church. She was baptized and Chrismated in 2019 and started her monastic life as a novice in 2020. In July 2025, she was tonsured into the Small Schema at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Libertyville, Illinois. She still wishes to help others overcome addiction, but wants to emphasize that addiction is simply an expression of the brokenness of fallen mankind, whose healing is found in the remedies found solely within the sacramental life of the Orthodox Church.
